Welcome to week 28!

This week your children learning about Jesus being tempted.

After Jesus was baptized, he fasted in the desert for forty days. During that time, the devil came and tempted Jesus to sin. Jesus used scripture each time to overcome the devil’s temptations.

In this Bible lesson, the children will learn that the devil will tempt you, but knowing and trusting God’s Word can keep you from sinning. Happy learning!

The key concepts that we focused on this week are:

The devil will tempt you to sin.
God’s Word can keep you from sinning.
You must keep God’s Word in your heart.

You can also come up with your own key concepts.

Bible Verse for kids
The Bible verse for this lesson is Luke 4:2

“For forty days {Jesus} was tempted by the devil”.
This Bible verse should be simple enough for your toddler to memorize after a week of practice.

Bible Story Tips

We read “Jesus Is Tempted” beginning on page 55 of the children's Bible Storybook called Bible-Time Stories and Rhymes.
During story, draw attention to the key concepts for this lesson.
Don't forget to ask questions related to the story, for example, “What did Jesus use to avoid temptations?”
Throughout the Bible lesson we reiterated how God’s Word can keep us from sinning.
After the Bible story and discussion session, we stand up and do the interactive rhyme found in the Bible storybook.

Prayer
After the story and rhyme, we say a prayer that is related to the Bible story. You can either have your children repeat after you or allow them to come up with their own prayer.

The Bible song for this week is "The B-I-B-L-E".
We cast the song from YouTube to the television, so our children can see the motions on the big screen.

God’s Word is sometimes referred to the Sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17).

And just like Jesus, we can use God’s Word to fight against the enemy’s temptations.

We used the "Win Over Sin Bible Activity" to show the girls the power God’s Word has over sin.

God’s Word in My Heart Bible craft

The devil tried three different times to tempt Jesus to sin but each time Jesus used a scripture to fight the temptation.

This Jesus is Tempted Bible craft can be made by cutting red cardstock or construction paper into an opening heart shape. On the inside of the heart shape, write the scripture Psalm 119:11: “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”

(We used the “God’s Word in My Heart Bible Craft" found in the Bible Time Family Fun Pack).

We reminded the girls that it’s important to keep God’s Word in our heart so we can use it to overcome temptation.

It is Written bible flip cards

Jesus responded to the devil's tempting with Scripture. Just like the devil tempted Jesus, he will also tempt us. We can respond to the devil’s temptations with scripture.

We used the "It Is Written Bible Flip Cards" to teach the girls how to respond to temptation the way Jesus did.

A Tempting Gift bible activity

Resisting temptation is not always an easy feat, especially when it’s something you really desire!

This children's activity will demonstrate how the devil can trick us.

I found a fancy gift box that I had in the closet. After the Bible story I asked the girls to guess what was in the box. Because they thought the box was so pretty, the girls guessed it had to be a beautiful gift that they would love inside. After a few guesses I let Allie open the box and boy was she disappointed to see that there was nothing in the box!

We used this kids Bible activity to explain that Satan tricks us in the same way. He offers us something that looks very attractive, but it ends up being worthless or nothing. We explained how important it is for us to know God, so he can help us know when we are being tricked.

Put His Word to Memory bible game

Jesus knew the scripture and he used it to defeat the devil’s temptations.

We played a fun Scripture memory matching game that helped the girls learn some of the Bible verses Jesus used when he was tempted.

This game can be created by putting matching pictures with Bible verses on card cutouts. Using the matching card cutouts, have the children match the pictures corresponding with God’s Word. Flip cards two-at-a-time until both cards are matched correctly. (We used the “Put His Word to Memory Bible Game" found in the Bible Time Family Fun Pack).

We explained that remembering God’s Word gives us a better chance of fighting temptations.

Victorious in Jesus bible printable

It is important for us to keep God’s Word in our hearts so we can use it to give us victory over sin.

We ended the week with the girls earning a medal for learning how to be victorious in Jesus. They each chose a Bible verse they wanted to memorize and they successfully memorized it by the end of the lesson.

We used the medal found in the "Victorious In Jesus Bible Printable".
