Week 24 - Daniel and the Lion’s Den -
Bible Time FUN Through the Bible
Kids Bible Lesson 24 - Daniel and the Lion's Den

Welcome to week 24!

This week your children learn the Bible story of Daniel and the Lion’s Den.

The king created a new law forcing everyone to stop praying. Daniel loved God,

so he continued to pray, like he always did. He wanted to obey God’s law over man’s law. Unfortunately, the king found out and sentenced Daniel to be thrown into a den of hungry lions.

In this Bible lesson, the children will learn the power of prayer and to trust God in the good and bad times. Happy learning!

If you haven’t read the introduction to Bible Time yet, I recommend you read the outline about the Bible lessons for children first.

Children's bible lesson about Daniel and the lion's den - Key Concepts
The key concepts that we focused on this week are:

  • Always remember to pray.

  • God can protect us from anything.

  • God is with us in good and bad times.

You can also come up with your own key concepts.

Bible Verse for kids
The Bible verse for this lesson is Daniel 6:22

“My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions”.
This Bible verse should be simple enough for your toddler to memorize after a week of practice.

Bible Story Tips

  • We read “Daniel and the Lion’s Den” beginning on page 47 of the children's Bible Storybook called Bible-Time Stories and Rhymes.

  • During story, draw attention to the key concepts for this lesson.

  • Don't forget to ask questions related to the story, for example, “What law did the king make?”

  • Throughout the Bible lesson we reiterated how important it is to be obedient to God.

  • After the Bible story and discussion session, we stand up and do the interactive rhyme found in the Bible storybook

Prayer
After the story and rhyme, we say a prayer that is related to the Bible story. You can either have your children repeat after you or allow them to come up with their own prayer.

Bible Song about Daniel and the lion's den

  • The Bible song for this week is "Angels Watching Over Me".

  • We cast the song from YouTube to the television, so our children can see the motions on the big screen.

Daniel and the lion's den bible coloring Page

While our daughters colored the Daniel and the Lion's Den Bible Coloring Page, we talked about how God protected Daniel from the hungry lions.

teach me to pray bible craft Activity

Praying to God was very important to Daniel.

So when the king made a law that no one could pray for thirty days, Daniel continued to pray openly to God.

Because Daniel broke the law, he was thrown into the lion’s den. Daniel continued to pray and God protected him from the hungry lions.

We used the "Teach Me To Pray Bible Craft Activity" to make a hand-y visual that helps teach children to pray regularly.

lion mask Bible craft

God can protect us just like he protected Daniel.

So we made an easy preschool Bible craft, to be a reminder to always pray and ask for God’s protection.

This Daniel and the Lion's Den Bible craft can be made by cutting a lion mask out of orange construction paper. Followed by cutting out several square shapes using yellow construction paper.

Next, draw a nose and whiskers on the lion mask cutout using black marker. Then paste the yellow square cutouts around the top of the lion mask (be sure to paste the yellow squares on the back of the mask).

Finally, paste a craft stick on to the back of the lion mask (We used the “Lion Mask Bible Craft" found in

the Bible Time Family Fun Pack).

My daughters had lots of fun peeking through their lions mask and pretending to be lions!

angels watching over me bible activity

Daniel spent all night in the lion’s den and he was not harmed. God sent angels to watch over Daniel all night, so the lions would not touch him.

We used the  "Angels Watching Over Me Bible Activity",  to  test our daughter's skills at telling time.

prayer in my pocket - prayer cards

The king passed a law against praying, but Daniel continued to pray faithfully to God.

In this activity, we reminded our daughters how important it is to always remember to pray.

To help teach our girls to remember to pray for themselves and others, we made simple prayer cards for our girls carry in their pocket all day.

hunting a lion Bible skit

Because Daniel did not follow the kings new law, he was thrown into a pit filled with hungry and ferocious lions. I can’t imagine how scary that was!

My daughters had a lot of fun playing a make-believe lion hunt in our backyard! I read the Hunting A Lion Script aloud to make the Bible skit more interactive.

After the Daniel and the Lion's Den Bible skit, we reminded our girls that God can protect us from anything - even ferocious lions.

dare to be daniel bible game

It took great courage and faith in God for Daniel to break the law and be obedient to God. God was faithful to Daniel and protected him from the hungry lions.

We used the "Dare To Be Daniel Bible Game"to discuss some of Daniel's character attributes, that helped him stay loyal to God.
