Week 20 - David and Goliath -
Bible Time FUN Through the Bible
Kids Bible Lesson 20 - David and Goliath

Welcome to week 20!

This week your children learn the story of David and Goliath. Goliath, a giant in the Philistine army, challenged anyone in Israel to fight him. David was a young shepherd boy standing among the scared Israelite army. He made a decision to trust God and fight the giant. In this Bible lesson, the children learn that you should trust in God because He is the one that truly gives you the strength to win every battle. Have fun learning this amazing story!

If you haven’t read the introduction to Bible Time yet, I recommend you read the outline about the Bible lessons for children first.

Children's bible lesson about David and Goliath - Key Concepts
The key concepts that we focused on this week are:

  • God is bigger than any giant.

  • Trust God. He will protect you.

  • God can use you, no matter your size.

You can also come up with your own key concepts.

Bible Verse for kids
The Bible verse for this lesson is 1 Samuel 17:37

This Bible verse should be simple enough for your toddler to memorize after a week of practice.

Bible Story Tips

  • We read “David and Goliath” beginning on page 39 of the children's Bible Storybook called Bible-Time Stories and Rhymes.

  • During story, draw attention to the key concepts for this lesson.

  • Don't forget to ask questions related to the story, for example, “Did God help David defeat Goliath?”

  • Throughout the Bible lesson we reiterated how God is bigger than any giant we may face.

  • After the Bible story and discussion session, we stand up and do the interactive rhyme found in the Bible storybook

Prayer
After the story and rhyme, we say a prayer that is related to the Bible story. You can either have your children repeat after you or allow them to come up with their own prayer.

Bible Song about David and Goliath

  • The Bible song for this week is "Only a Boy Named David".

  • We cast the song from YouTube to the television, so our children can see the motions on the big screen.

bible Activities about David and Goliath

We did different Bible activities each day - related to David and Goliath. We also have a selection of free Bible activities about David and Goliath here.

The Bible Time Family Fun Pack includes all of the Bible activities printed for your convenience, learn more here. Some activities included:

David and Goliath bible coloring Page

While our daughters colored the David and Goliath Bible Coloring Page, we talked about how with God’s help, David was able to defeat Goliath with just a stone and a slingshot.

Big Giant…Bigger God bible activity

Goliath was 9 feet tall but this did not stop David from volunteering to fight the giant. David knew that Goliath was big, but God is bigger.

We had a great time making a life-sized drawing of Goliath so the girls can have an idea of how big Goliath was.

We used the Big Giant…Bigger God Bible Activity and had the girls stand next to the picture of Goliath while we explained that even though Goliath was a lot bigger than David, he was not scared to fight because he knew God was even bigger!

Our Shield Bible Craft

The Israelites had a big giant to face.

Sometimes we have giants, or big problems in our lives that we have to face. God lets us know that he is our strength and our shield and will protect us from any giant.

- We made a Shield Bible Craft to be a reminder that the Lord is our shield.

- This David and Goliath Bible craft for toddlers can be made by cutting a shield shape out of construction paper.

- Next, cut out a cross shape and then add it to the shield.

- Finally, write “The Lord is my strength and shield.

(We used the “Our Shield Bible Craft" found in the Bible Time Family Fun Pack.)

Sticks and Stones Bible craft activity

David had great courage and faith.

He trusted that God would keep him safe and help him to defeat Goliath. With just a slingshot and one of the five stones he collected, David defeated Goliath and saved his people from the Philistines.

- While the girls worked on the "Sticks and Stones Bible Craft Activity", we talked about how with God’s help, David was able to defeat the giant with just his slingshot and one stone.

My God is So Big Bible Game

David knew that God was bigger than anything he would face, even Goliath. We played a fun game that helped the kids to imagine how big God really is!

Here’s how to play:

Say, “My God is bigger than...” and then name something God is bigger than.

The children should act out whatever you say. (Like mountains, rivers, the earth, elephants, semi-trucks, buildings, the sun, rhinos etc.) Help them name other things God is bigger than.

After the game, I reminded the girls that God is bigger than anything they may face.

Finding Stones Bible Scavenger Hunt

David found five stones, but it only took one stone to knock down the giant.

- The girls had fun searching for different types of stones. We talked about the different sizes and shapes each stones are. We explained how it only took one small stone to defeat the huge giant because God was with David.

- After the scavenger hunt, we reminded the girls that God can use them no matter how small they are.

Little Hero bible printable

The king and all the soldiers in the Israelite army were afraid to fight Goliath. Only a young shepherd boy named David was brave enough to fight the giant. David knew that God would be with him and help him win. Because of his courage and his faith in God, David defeated Goliath and became a hero.

We used the "Little Hero Bible Printable", to remind the girls that God can use us no matter what size we are.
