Week 31 - Salt And Light -
Bible Time FUN Through the Bible
Kids Bible Lesson 31 - Salt and Light
fun through the bible salt and light.png

Welcome to week 31!

This week your children will learn about how to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

Jesus continued the Sermon on the Mountain with the important lesson of being salt of the earth and light of the world. Jesus taught the crowd to preserve the good and let your light shine for the world to see.

In this Bible lesson, the children learn that your light shines through good deeds that glorify God. So allow Jesus to work through you to create a way for all people to be saved.

Happy learning!

If you haven’t read the introduction to Bible Time yet, I recommend you read the outline about the Bible lessons for children first.

Children's bible lesson about the salt and light - Key Concepts

The key concepts that we focused on this week are:

  • You are the salt of the earth and light of the world.

  • Let your light shine before others.

  • Teach others about Jesus through good deeds.

You can also come up with your own key concepts.

Bible Verse for kids
The Bible verse for this lesson is Matthew 5:16

“Let your light shine before others”.
This Bible verse should be simple enough for your toddler to memorize after a week of practice.

Bible Story Tips

  • We read “Salt and Light” beginning on page 61 of the children's Bible Storybook called Bible-Time Stories and Rhymes.

  • During story, draw attention to the key concepts for this lesson.

  • Don't forget to ask questions related to the story, for example, “What happens when other
    people see our light?”

  • Throughout the Bible lesson we reiterated that we can teach others about Jesus through our actions.

  • After the Bible story and discussion session, we stand up and do the interactive rhyme found in the Bible storybook

Prayer
After the story and rhyme, we say a prayer that is related to the Bible story. You can either have your children repeat after you or allow them to come up with their own prayer.

  • The Bible song for this week is "Light of the World".

  • We cast the song from YouTube to the television, so our children can see the motions on the big screen.

bright light bible activity

In a world that is filled with so much darkness, God wants his followers to be a bright light. In a world that is growing worse day by day, God wants his followers to preserve it and to keep it from going completely bad.

We do this by doing good and showing others Gods love.

We had fun with the "Bright Light Bible Activity".  While we created the raised salt painting, we talked about some ways we can show God's love through our actions.

lantern Bible craft

When we display good attitudes and behaviors, we can teach others about Jesus.

We made a Bible craft as a reminder to the girls to let Jesus shine through them.

(We used the “Lantern Bible Craft" found in the Bible Time Family Fun Pack).

God wants us to let our lights shine. When people see us they should see God's light shining through us, so they can see how great He is.

the girls made the "Let It Shine Bible Craft Activity" to be a reminder to let their light shine.

Just add salt bible project

Jesus declared “You are the salt of the earth.” Salt has many beneficial properties to help people’s lives.

During this children's Bible science activity, we learned about the power of salt. We explained to our daughters that  an egg does not normally float in water, but when we added salt - the egg was able to float!

During the activity, we talked about the benefits of salt and how it relates to how Christians can benefit the world.

(The instructions for the "Just Add Salt" activity is found in the Bible Time Family Fun Pack).

let your light shine bible rhyme

When the world seems dark, we can be the light that shines to remove the darkness.

We read a fun rhyme about five little candles. You can find the Bible rhyme here. You will need five candle shaped cutouts.

We reminded the girls to let their lights shine for others to see.

(The rhyme for the "Let Your Light Shine" activity is found in the Bible Time Family Fun Pack).
