Week 23 - The Fiery Furnace -
Bible Time FUN Through the Bible
Kids Bible Lesson 23 - The Fiery Furnace

Welcome to week 23!

This week your children learn the Bible story of The fiery furnace.

In Babylon, King Nebuchadnezzar built a golden statue of himself for everyone to worship. Three men named Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refused to worship the statue because of their faithfulness to God. King Nebuchadnezzar sentenced them to be thrown into a fiery furnace, but they believed God would protect them from harm.

In this Bible lesson, the children learn that God wants you to stand strong and remain faithful in Him. Have fun learning this amazing story!

If you haven’t read the introduction to Bible Time yet, I recommend you read the outline about the Bible lessons for children first.

The key concepts that we focused on this week are:

  • God will protect you.

  • Stand strong in your faith.

You can also come up with your own key concepts.

Bible Verse for kids
The Bible verse for this lesson is Daniel 3:17 (ICB)

The God we serve is able to save us”.
This Bible verse should be simple enough for your toddler to memorize after a week of practice.

Bible Story Tips

  • We read “The Fiery Furnace” beginning on page 45 of the children's Bible Storybook called Bible-Time Stories and Rhymes.

  • During story, draw attention to the key concepts for this lesson.

  • Don't forget to ask questions related to the story, for example, “What did king Nebuchadnezzar build?”

  • Throughout the Bible lesson we reiterated how important it is to remain faithful to God.

  • After the Bible story and discussion session, we stand up and do the interactive rhyme found in the Bible storybook

Prayer
After the story and rhyme, we say a prayer that is related to the Bible story. You can either have your children repeat after you or allow them to come up with their own prayer.

Bible Song about The Fiery Furnace

  • The Bible song for this week is "Praise Ye the Lord, Hallelujah".

  • We cast the song from YouTube to the television, so our children can see the motions on the big screen.

bible Activities about The Fiery Furnace

We did different Bible activities each day - related to Daniel and the Fiery Furnace. We also have a selection of free Bible activities about The Fiery Furnace here.

The Bible Time Family Fun Pack includes all of the Daniel and the Fiery Furnace Bible activities (plus more), printed and arranged for your convenience. Some fun and kid-friendly Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego Bible activities include:

The Fiery Furnace bible coloring Page

While our daughters colored the The Fiery Furnace Bible Coloring Page, we talked about how God protected Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego from harm in the fiery furnace.

God with US bible Activity

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego showed their commitment to God by not bowing down to the king’s golden statue. God also showed his commitment to the three Hebrew men by standing with them in the fire.

We used the "God With Us Bible Activity" to demonstrate how Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were untouched because God was with them.

The Fiery Furnace Bible craft

King Nebuchadnezzar punished Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego for breaking his law, but they remained faithful to God.

This Bible craft for preschoolers can be made by cutting a furnace shape out of black construction paper.

Next, cut a piece of orange cellophane paper to the same shape and glue to the back of the furnace.

Finally, cut out three figures from black construction paper, then glue the three figures on to the orange cellophane paper (We used the “Fiery Furnace Bible Craft" found in the Bible Time Family Fun Pack.)

During the Bible craft, I reminded the girls that God wants you to stay strong in your faith.

on fire for god craft activity

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were on fire for God!

They did not care what the consequences were, they decided to worship God and not the image of gold. Because of their decision, God protected the three Hebrew boys.

We used the  "On Fire for God Craft Activity",  to show my daughters how they too can be on fire for God.

god is our protection Bible experiment

God protected the three young men from being harmed in the fiery furnace.

For this Bible experiment, we did an illustration of God’s protection.

Instructions:

1. Say to the children “God protects us, even in the most difficult circumstances.”

2. Put an orange into a clear container of water. Show the children the orange floating on top of the water.

3. Peel the protective skin off the orange and then put the orange back into the water. The orange will sink.

4. Explain that the peel protects the orange and stops it from sinking.

We explained to the girls that just like the orange peel protects the orange, God is our protective covering.

odd men out spot the difference Bible puzzle

All the people in Babylon bowed to the golden statue, except for Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. They were the odd men out.

While the girls worked on a find the difference puzzle sheet,(We used the “Odd Men Out - Spot The Difference Bible puzzle" found in the Bible Time Family Fun Pack), we talked about what it means to be the odd one out. We explained that it’s okay to be different from people who don’t follow God’s rules.

After the puzzle, we reminded the girls that they should follow God’s rules even if even if other people don’t.

tell the story bible game

The story of the Fiery Furnace is full of great lessons. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego did not care that they disobeyed the king because obeying God was more important.

We played a fun game called "Tell The Story Bible Game", where the girls got to tell the story how they remember it and share the lessons they learned.
