But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
At last Jesus was at rest. The long day of shame and torture was ended. The Son of God lay at peace in the tomb. His work completed and He rested through the sacred hours of the Sabbath day. Meanwhile, the disciples were heartbroken at the death of Jesus. They had forgotten the promise of Jesus that He would rise from the dead.
We cannot forget His promise. Jesus kept his promise that he will die for our sins, he kept his promise that he would rise on the third day and he will keep his promise that he will return for us and we will live with him forever.
On this Holy Saturday let us remember God’s promises so that we do not find sorrow, but that we find hope in him.
Holy God, thank you for the hope found in your promises. Help me to remember these promises, so that my faith may be strong in you. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
